: : As to the implied stipulation, i.e. that the stupid and inane are the foundation of capitalism's support, I would look recommend you to look at 'New Age' pseudo-scientists and post-modernist philosophers more closely. Their lack of intellectual rigor and attention to the facts bodes ill for the Left's respectability in the future.

: SDF: Why are "New Age" and "post-modernist" automatically "leftist"? There's certainly nothing opposing capitalist practice in either subculture. The "New Age" appears to me to be a commodity sold by Marin County hucksters, and my leftist friends think of "postmodernism" as a theory defending corporate marketing strategies, as in "Pepsi ads have a postmodern narrative construction..."

I'm glad you denounce them. The use of wiccan spiritualism to defend what is in essence a 'neo-Ludditism', and the feminist use of post modernist philosophy (such as 'deconstruction') to forward ideas that would be laughably untenable otherwise, I have always found troubling. Your desire to distance yourself from such intellectual shenanigans is commendable.

Strangely, I have found those that expouse these systems of thought often are also proponents of left-wing policies. Perhaps the connection is spurious, but if it is, it is not readily apparent. The association of the two is practically folklore nowadays.

Consider me admonished. (:
