If you contrast a lot of marxist governments and those of national liberation movements the social policy and economic policy is the same.

In which case nationalism and marxism might be considered a type of benevolent state collectivism.

That's why the support exists, also a lot of national liberation movements are unsufisticated authoritarian egalitarianists.
