Im not sure what kind of school yours is but i have found that public school teachers have a tendency to use apparent 'discuss a topic' sessions to cram their personal, usually statist, ideology down young minds. Dont take whats taught as the final truth on the matter - especially in non-scientific/mathematical subjects.
