: My knowledge about Haiti is evry poor, however I do know that the Dominican Republic was for about three decades under the thumb of a right-wing capitalist dictator, possibly the worst Caribbean tyrant of modern times. Today, Haitian migrants still work udner slave conditions in the sugar fields of the DR.

America has twice this century invaded Haiti, teh first time in, IIRC the twenties, wherein an explcitly racist control was exerted by US marines, and later this cerntury, when, after Supporting Duvalier in ousting Aristeed, the US decided he was bad for business himself, and ousted him, returning Aristeed, but first ensuring that Business was brought powerfully into Government, and destroying the democratic organisations that had brought aristeed to power in the first place. Charming. See Chomsky 'World Orders Old and New.'
