: To return to capitalism. This forum competes for attention and posters with other forums (such as the progress one to which you post, I dont) and to do so successfully it must offer something. In this case its the fact that there is subject matter and posters to whom you want to respond. The fact that this exchange has taken place is evidence of the success of this forums features.

To grovel righteously to the McS folks (for reasons which I'll make clearer in a post tomorrow)I think one of the best features of this board is that it is in fact moderated, hence free of Spam, contentless posts, and holding a general requirement for people to actively add to debate when they post- as well as upholding a level of decency and respect among posters.

McSpotlight: This is why a moderated forum like this is (in our view) better than a free-for-all, such as you can find on an IRC channel; signal-to-noise. There are plenty of people who send messages to forums like this that are a) irrelevant, b) abusive, c) both or d) just plain odd; this way, we can filter these out, which means that the debate can retain more form as a debate proper, even if we usually moderate with a pretty lenient touch.
