which 'capitalism' is it this time?

I dont know what you mean by 'capitalist ethics' but imperialism as it appeared in india and s america is certainly against the ethics expressed by those poeple who are associated with the economic renaiisance - JS Mill, Locke, Jefferson etc. What you described was more the collectivist tribalism as expressed in all nationalism.

It seems a popular ploy to lay the blame for various acts of nationalism and imperialism at the feet of free trade despite the blindingly obvious contradiction in concepts.
