The above statistics are obscene. Anyone who believs in any degree of equality before other men or before God, or who ahs any degree of belief in our common humanity, cannot fail to be disgusted by this. My own feeling is that if more americans knew these facts, they would be disgusted with their leaders who ahve led teh world to this impasse and would throw the bastards out and make steps towards fixing the problem. After all, we were founded on the basis of human equality and as a republic of small farmers/ tradesmen, not big capitalists.

Unfortunately, the situation is getting worse. the gap between the wealthiest countries and the poorest has increased since the '60s. Of course, i don't believe teh gap can keep increasing forever. It's inherent in the human nature to rebel against injustice and suffering. Sooner or later the third world and the humanity-minded citizens of teh first world will renegotiate the distribution in wealth of the world.
