: Yes, exactly. You think the big industrial capitalists would have let FDR do anything that would have underminded them? They worked TOGETHER on his big social programs and, as far as I know, the capitalist may have concocted the whole damned thing. They realized that it would be easier to create a docile enslaved middle class that would still continue to work for THEM while shielding them from the lower classes than it would be to keep dealing with mass revolts, strikes, civil unrest, etc. Their greed simply shifted into a higher state of consciousness. A welfare state that they would be perpetually in control of looked way better to them than a full blown socialist or communist takeover. They were probably cumming all over themselves and hi-fiving FDR in the Oval office whenever he signed these kinds of bills. Yeah, thanks alot FDR.

SDF: Precisely, DDN, FDR created the New Deal to prevent socialism in the US. Actually the welfare state created by FDR was pitifully insufficient to deal with a nation with savage poverty, 25% unemployment, and violent class warfare (amusingly enough, Steinbeck's THE GRAPES OF WRATH was an accurate portrayal of it), but was enough to quell resistance until WWII came along...
