: It would be worth noting that the British Socialist Workers Party has roughly 10,000 members (making them the current biggest leftist movement). On a scale with Russia, proportionately, thats the same size as the Bolsheviks. Imagine a revolution led by that tiny band. they scare me - they'd have to shoot me ;)

Good to hear from ya Red, but I believe I must disagree. I think the two biggest communist movements (if you're talking worldwide) are the Communist Party of South Africa and the Communist Party of India- Marxist. Jyoti Basu, leader of the CPI-M proclaimed in 1991 that with the fall of the Soviet Union his was now the strongest Communist party in the world. And also, i might add, one of the most successful- what with Kerala and all. The CPSA is also not to be sniffed at. Their leader, the late Joe Slovo, is one of this century's truly inspirational figures. A Lithuanian Jewish immigrant to South Africa, high school dropout, friend and ally of Mandela, anti-apartheid lawyer, exile from his country, ANC organizer, communist theoretician, and eventual Minister of Housing, he never gave up teh struggle for equality, even when the South Africans killed his wife- though he could easily have settled back into a comfortable life as a white lawyer in South Africa. He is sorely missed today.

P.S. How's the work world? Find a good Public Library job yet?
