Well I dont really see what the problem is Rawls had ideas which where good and bad, that is, Socialist and not Socialist, like every ideology I'd suggest you run with what is best and forget the rest or at least realise that it is of less importance.

Barry are you arguing for absolute equality? Because I dont see that happening anytime soon, even functionalism creates inequality, I mean if I'm hospitalised the nurses and doctors since the possess medical knowledge that I dont couldnt be described as equal to me this field. Then take the different abilities people are born with, like Motzart or Einstein, until Genetic Modification can produce perfect people there will be people who's capacities differ and if relative inequality motivates them to work towards the common good then so be it.
