The Food Stamp Money Trail

Posted by: Steven Myers on August 08, 1996 at 18:29:00:

Follow the money trail, that's what they say

And when you do you'll find the way

And the how, and the who, and what's going on

And to see what is right and that which is wrong

So we'll follow the money to see where it goes

Like a yellow brick road with red ruby toes

It all starts with people who's faces are glum

Wage earners with oodles of taxable income

They pay their money for the privilege to work

And pay each year without even a shurk

Government transforms their money with care

(And of course all the while, keeping their share)

Into stamps for the poor, so the poor they can eat

By gosh and by golly, isn't that neat!

We can't stop now. The trail don't end there

We'll follow that trail like Alice's hare

The poor can get "food," like Twinkies and pop

And take home just gobs of similar slop

On the search for the trail, we cannot loose track

So the trail of money is where we'll get back

The procedure so far seems wonderfully quaint

But the stamps for the poor, Money it ain't

The money trail leads away from the poor

And convolutes to a much different door

The store transforms the stamps with care

Into money of course, keeping their share

The bulk of the money I know this for sure

Goes right to the Twinkies manufacturer

When the money trail's viewed all the way through

We can see where that money is going to

And I can tell you where the money does go

To the Pillsbury Boy who's made out of dough

Queen Antoinette knew of what she did spake

When she spoke of the poor, "Let them eat cake!"

That's exactly what, we do in our time

As I've laid it all out in this silly rhyme

After all the confanguled rigamarole

It's the grocery store that's on the dole

In conclusion: you can see

Food stamps subsidize the food industry!
