how about finding out what the problem is and working together to fix it? yes, public schools are completely out of whack and are institutions of ignorance, but i don't think we should abandon them altogether. not everyone can aford private education, and even if they could, the problems that we are experiencing now in public schools would simply be transfered to private ones... teachers will be overwhelmed, some students (STILL) won't care, and the old heirarchies that alienated our public school kids will be replaced by new ones.

the so-called "voucher plan" has been tested in texas. results: the private schools that participated built seperate buildings for all the transfered public school kids so that their darling original students wouldn't have to mix with the newly arrived rabble. the new students were made to feel like dung in this way, and their performance in the classroom reflected this.

besides: it's rare when privatization makes any public institutions better than they were (or more accessable).
