Last time I checked, a head of lettuce, some alfalfa sprouts, a loaf of bread, a carton of milk and a good-sized bag of potatoes were still cheaper than a family meal out at McShit's, and would likely go a bit further towards feeding our hypothetical family on welfare. At least the poverty-stricken family would be sure of getting some vitamins into their children, rather than pure saturated fat with a bit of bread and ketchup.
A "decent" meal, you say? I think you need your f'ing head checked, my dear. The only "benefits" offered by McDonald's food, and I mean ALL OF IT, is high cholesterol, heart disease, obesity and malnutrition (only in OUR society can both be found simultaneously in the same person), environmental turmoil (which I'm sure you couldn't care less about) and kids who will follow Ronald to their graves as if he were the pied piper....
A "decent" meal indeed. People in third world countries, and in fact, the poor in our own society, are starving to death on McDonalds', and YOUR, idea of a "decent" meal. Ever notice the wide gaping hole of hunger (amidst wrenching stomach cramps) that accompany a finished meal at mcDonalds?
Don't kid yourself. You're better off buying a decent chunk of ground beef at the local market and making your own burgers (that is, if you even know how to do THAT in today's prepackaged consumer society...). At least then you have an idea what you're putting in your child's stomach. A comment on parental apathy could be inserted here, but that would be a digression....
Nobody is stopping you from eating "whatever the fuck you want." You alone will also face the health consequences. But who is to blame for those your children will face?
