This will change their lives, for the better, and effect their future family.: Sorry, but I hated high school so much it is one of th few things I can think of that is worse than McDonalds work, hour for hour. Being in school(at least to me) was prison time on the installment plan. While McDonalds can fire you, they cannot report you to the police for being "truant" from work and overtime, unlike detention, comes with pay and you can always refuse. In some cases, if they fire you for this they then have to scrape to find a replacement. Iven if they do not, at least no one is required by law to work at McD's.
: When I was in high school, at age 14 I hated school dicipline so much I seriously considered suicide before I found out how to fight back. My advice to anyone stuck in school is to drop out and get a GED at age 16. Even if you want to go to college, you can still doso. Most community colleges will admit a 16 year old with a GED. In desperate situatios, there is always the"underground" runaway subculture. It's not gret, but it beats suicide or a mental hospital(some parents try this, and I have known over a dozen escapees from such hellholes).
: As I have said so many times before, the real objective of schools is NOT to teach "reading,writing, and 'rithmetic" but rather to teach unquestioning obediance to authority. Tome, the people demanding submission are the enemy and should be treated as such.
My name is Sarah Baker, I am currently attending High School in Michigan. Or rather, attending my local prison cell. I am having a very hard time going every single day, and not becoming another dang "dropout".
Unlike the stereotypes that so many people seem to believe, I am not pregnant, have never done drugs, don't have family problems, and get good grades. Actually, I'm a pretty good student... but believe me, I do not take pride in that label. Here are MY reasons for considering dropping-out:
What a waste of time!!!! Why attend the same building every single day, taking in all of the ignorance and (in my opinion) B.S., while I could be learning so much more on my own, traveling, reading, journaling, communicating. They say that Experience is the best teacher.... why doens't anyone ever take that seriously?????
Lets see, what do I learn in high school? Don't get me wrong, I learn a lot, and that's cool. But it seems to me that they teach as less as possible. Follow the government's strict regulations, and never take the time to actually get us thinking. They teach what they have to, and that's it. Is that really the education I'm looking for? I don't think so!
And WHY does the state make me go to school at least until I turn 16? Is it because they want me to think and question? Because they want me to have an education and be an intellegent young woman? I doubt it. Our United States society is teaching it's youth to go to school, get a nice job, marry someone you love (divorce in approximently six years), have two beautiful children, live in the Suburbs, and live happily ever after. Society's definition of success. Well, if that's success, then I don't want it. I'd rather be poor in a tent eating rice near a highway than that. As long as I'm as educated as I can be. Actually, much rather. The moral that public schools are teaching me and my peers is that after high school or college your learning experiences end. Like there's nothing more worth learning. Screw that!!! If the only reason I'm in school is to be "successful" later on, and pass a couple meaningless tests, then I'd rather not be.
