James:

I stumble to point out the obvious...while it's true I did not "see" the broadcast which has apparently incensed you, the fact of the matter is that most child support awards in our country bind fathers because more often than not custody is awarded to mom. By merely addressing the numbers involved here, it would stand to reason that MOST individuals failing to pay child support are men.

I think there is also a distinction to be made between the man/woman who genuinely for whatever reason "cannot" pay (unemployment, illness...) and that person who is capable, and simply doesn't.

It is also a hard truth that many women, certainly not all, do not have the capacity for earning that many men do. I am far from a feminist, but sometimes in the identical position a man will command a higher salary. At least one of the criteria for that obvious inequity is that men over the years have been labeled the "breadwinners". Stands to reason in my book then, that given ALL the facts, and the presumed "employee credit" as the provider for children, that they should do so.

I applaud the efforts of the organizations that illuminate the immorality of any individual who fails to meet this obligation when no other "real" circumstance prevents it. Your wrath, in my humble opinion, would be better spent at supporting the organization so that these men do not give the rest of you a bad name .

Warmly,

Jessica
