: My daughter also wants to eat vegetarian burgers and other non meat food. Do you know good places to eat vegetarian food, cheaply and reasonably quickly for kids. We are visiting the western states in summer and really want to avoid McD's etc.

Unfortunately, all the fast food places I know of are based on meat. I would love drive-thru steamed vegetables but that isn't gonna happen anytime too soon.

Try Subway. A veggie sub is reasonably cheap and healthy. Someone, somewhere, deemed it the only fast food food place that actually lived up to it's claims of having somewhat nutritious food.

And this isn't a very cheap or quick chain to eat at, but Chilis not only has a veggie burger, but will also substitute a veggie burger for any of their various burger combinations. If you wanna pay more than $5 for it...

Taco Bell is disgusting but very, very cheap. A bean burrito's less than a dollar. Most items can be adjusted, you can add rice, hold the meat and cheese etc.

Your best bet is to work around the menu. For example, a freind and I had lunch at Steak And Shake (you can bet there's no veggie burgers at a place that prides itself on it's "steakburgers") and shared a BLT without the B, that came with two sides (fries and a salad) for only $5.

It's harder if you're vegan.
When in doubt get fries.
Or Chinese takeout.
