The question was posed: Why? Why drop out?

A possible answer: Well, maybe the public school system just isn't FOR some people. This is what a friend of mine would say, and he works with the "failures" of the system as an independent study teacher. Of course, young people need some guidance in their lives as they grow older, if they're in school or not. For them, my friend would say, there's the Teenage Liberation Handbook. Check it out.

As for low-wage service jobs, it's becoming easier and easier to be stuck in such jobs, regardless of one's educational level, because there are more and more of these jobs while the good jobs are disappearing. We'll all have to think of ourselves as responsible for the society we create if we really want to change this situation.
