The government wants to legalize marijuana just for their own benefit.
Millions of dollars are spent by the government each year in the process of procecution of marijuana users. They also spent vast amount of money introducing antidrugs programs. Hence, the government will be able to keep all this money if marijuana is ligalized regardless of its negative outcomes.
