McSpotlight: Hate to dispel that old myth, but Einstein actually excelled at school; he was top of his class in maths, physics and music.
The apparent failure was due to a change in the way exams were marked; Grade 1 (originally the highest grade) became Grade 6; Grade 6 (originally the lowest grade) became Grade 1. To the casual observer, it would be like seeing a load of Fails; in fact it meant he was still top of the class.
The reason he did not go to the Hochschule he intended to was due to his one great weakness; languages, particularly French.
