i dropped out of school last year.
in answer to your questions..

-well, i dropped out of school because i realized what a bunch of bullshit it was..i have always had a problem with doing things i didn't want to do, but i just couldn't see wasting my time anymore writing stupid papers and taking classes that had nothing to do with what i want to do with my life. i remember thinking, if i die next week, i will have done pretty much none of what i want to do with my life, and none of it really requires a degree, it's just that i had been conditioned to think that if i don't get a degree i'll end up bitter and penniless working at mcdonalds..
for some people school is great and they don't have a problem with doing pointless stuff people tell them to do..or maybe for them it's not pointless, as they want to do stuff like that for the rest of their lives.
i completely understand and respect that..but for me it was hell.

-what could have been done to keep me in school? pretty much a total overhaul of the school i guess. i'd like to make my own degree, not choose from what they say is available. i'd like to take classes that inspire me and give me opporitunities that i otherwise wouldn't have.
i'd like to be encouraged, not plopped into a class of hundreds and ignored. it could be so much better.

-how has it affected my life? it was the best thing i ever did.
when i was in school i was stressed all the time, i had no time for the things i loved anymore. now i've traveled all over the country, i'm working at a women's shelter and a bookstore, apprenticing at a stained glass workshop, doing all the things i love, and i've learned more in this past year than i did in all of high school and college combined, i think. i attend lectures of my choice, i've learned so much from the people i've met, i travel and volunteer, i have time to read constantly...so much more.

like i said, it was the best thing i ever did..i hope this helps some.
