Thats why we have zoning laws

There are things called zoning laws which prevent commercial businesses from opening up in residential neighborhoods. Since all houses, apartments and condos are only allowed in residential zones and stores, restaurants office buildings etc... are only allowed in commercial zones how can a McDonalds be right next door to a house? Nearby yes, but not next door.
