They do use 100% vegetable oil (at least in the United States-- I don't know about other countries, though I would suspect that's not true because the fires in Hong Kong taste better than the ones in the USA). I don't wish to blame McDonald's for the sins of other restaurants, but not all the others are as careful as them. But, if one finds it necessary to ask if the fries are suitable for vegetarians, they probably wouldn't be reassured by this knowledge; mistakes can happen.
