Should we sue?

My very close friend just got food poisoning from something, and the only thing she ate during the day was a McDonald's Crispy Chicken sandwich. I am not one of those "sue" happy people, but when and if the tests come back saying it was food poisoning, would it be appropriate to file a law suit against McDonald's? She hasn't been able to go to work and even function normally. If we did sue, what would be an appropriate amount? How do you justify "pain and suffering?"
