What McDonald's does is to destroy the local culture and cuisine wherever they go. I think this was clear from the beginning, with the standardized foods and decor and the advertising to convince people that their bland, mushy slop is desirable. Traveling in the US, it's easy to see the impact of McDonald's and other fast food chains: regional specialties are disappearing, except in more expensive restaurants. (There are a few exceptions, of course, notably Louisiana, where even the airport food is delicious, affordable, and local.)
