I am afraid that I'll find a lot more North America overseas than I ever wanted to know exists.

Yes, we Americans have managed to destroy much of that which is beautiful. We certainly have ruined the landscape of our own country, and now we're starting in on the rest of the world. Some years ago I labeled this phenomenon the "Elvis Factor."

I recall my mother being apalled when she visited Rome for the first time in many years, only to discover that there was a McDonald's on the Piazza.

I am almost 30 years old, and have never yet managed to leave North America. I hope to do so in the coming months, but I am afraid that I'll find a lot more North America overseas than I ever wanted to know exists.
