Mutual Support Society?

I know that a lot of you are probably going to take offense at this, and it probably won't make it through editorial but I feel that it needs to be said anyway.

Let me preface this by saying that I have made a conscious decision not to give McDonalds my business because I don't like their business practices and that their food was not good enough to make me ignore that. I have not eaten a single McDonalds product for three years now and I don't intend to start anytime soon given any choice.

Now onto my little rant. I was told about this site by a friend of mine so I thought that it would be good to come along and have a look to see what it was all about because I was interested to see what form this anti McDonalds sentiment would take. I was coming here expecting to find some intelligent discussion on maybe their predatory business practises etc and how they do not contribute much to society except for a nicely trained workforce. Well at least trained enough to be able to work well within a team.

Instead I come here to find for the most part three groups of people:

1. The people who have worked for McDonalds and believe that they have been screwed over. This may well have happened, but for goodness sakes just because someone hands you a shit sandwich doesn't mean you have to eat it.

2. Then there is the "McDonalds Sucks" crew. Which I found to be a little infantile really, but hey that's just my opinion and cause I don't agree with you it doesn't really count does it?

3. Then there are the rabid vego-terrorists. I have known quite a few vegans and vegetarians in my life and they have generally been quite nice people with a good solid head on their shoulders who were able to reason out a good debate and then accept that someone had a point of view different from theirs and accept them as a friend. Unfortunately you don't quite fit into that group do you because as far as your concerned I may as well be the Lightbringer for the fact that I enjoy nothing more than a nice steak dinner and a pair of leather shoes. As far as I have seen it seems that a lot of you rabid folks need to get a distemper shot so that you can actually sit down and see that other people are entitled to other points of view.

"What about the poor animals who are being brought up in factories to feed you hellish desires?" I hear you say. Well this will shock you, I don't agree with the rough treatment that battery hens get but when you look at it, until the beef cattle are herded onto the truck they lead a pretty decent life, they get to chew grass, sleep alot and if they are feeling pretty good they can chew the grass again to make it easier to digest.

Then there is also the fact that I am a firm believer of survival of the fittest. That is what evolution is all about. We are at the top of the food chain. This does not mean that I advocate cruelty in any form, but I refuse to feel guilty for eating another animal.

One thing that I personally think needs to be done by most people in most activist groups is to step back, throw out the party line and then make your own decision based on the evidence that is presented to you. I don't doubt that a lot of you will come to the same conclusions that you have now but there will be some that will say "Hang on there are a couple of things here that don't make sense here". I am not saying yours beliefs are wrong, I am saying instead that you should build your own belief structures and not necessarily believe what people hand to you on a flyer at your university or whereever.

In essence what I am trying to say to you is that instead of just belonging to one of the three groups listed above and acting as a mutual support society, why don't you have some intelligent debate as to how to stop this monolith from making this from Planet Earth into Planet McDonalds. I think that we have all established that "McDonalds Sucks" and that their food really has no nutritional value and dubious origins. Build a bridge and get over it and then move onto doing something about it. I will personally not tolerate a situation where people are being forced to live in a situation that they are not happy with, but if those same people are not willing to help themselves to a certain extent then I can feel no sympathy when they continue to bitch about it but will not take action.

Feel free to email me with your points of view on what I have written here.
