Judge's first ever libel trial

Yep, and it was his first ever libel trial too, so he was very inexperienced (and this is VERY obvious if you read the transcripts)
Basically, McDonald's lawyer is an expert at libel cases (and I suppose he should be at 2000 pounds a day !) so it was hardly surprising that he managed to pull the wool over poor old Justice Bell's eyes.

BIG shame though :-(
