Mike-
I strongly disagree with your attempt to prove that animal pain is inconsequential simply because animals cannot make moral judgements. The point is not whether or not animals posess the intelligence to think morally, it is simply the fact that animals DO feel pain, and that it is the same as a human's whether they can ascribe meaning to it or not. Babies cannot make moral judgements, yet do you contest that their pain matters? Pain is pain and the wanton causing of it is wrong no matter who it's done to.
