Actually, the reason why vegetarian products are so expensive now is because most people don't eat them. I mean it costs $5+ a kilo for raw peanuts, but only $2 for peanuts that have been oiled buttered and roasted. Certainly vegetables are a far less expensive way to produce protein - you can grow many tonnes of peanuts on the same amount of land that is required to raise a single cow.
