A perfect example of this is Microsoft and Windows (3.0, 3.1,
then 95). Their foothold is so great it is very difficult if
not impossible to buy a machine pre-assembled without Windows
on it. In fact some dishonest salespeople even tell you that
Windows is free! (to avoid having to reduce the price if you
ask for Windows to be taken off before you get the machine)
The truth is the contract the manufacturer has with Microsoft
states they only get the discount if every machine has
Windows on it, or something like that.
