Just for starters, children can barely survive on formula let alone thrive. I think that the mass feeding of infant formula to our babies is the worst experiment ever undertaken on the human race. Women who routinely feed their healthy newborn babies formula are usually giving them a cows milk concoction. Usually they are in the hospital or doctors office within 6 weeks with an ear infection or worse.(projectile vomiting). So the doctor puts them on soy formula. The problem with formula is, scientist put it together(alot of guess work). There are too many calories and not enough water. (guess work on your part now). Have you ever compared a breast fed and a bottle fed baby at the same age? The bottle fed baby is BIG, clumsy, and not very bright.( A breast fed baby has an average I.Q. of 10 points higher than formula fed babies).
Cows milk, meant for baby calfs; has nutrients especially for that animal so it can double it's weight in 6 weeks. It developes bone and muscles. Breast milk developes the brain and spinal column. I recommend women who are unable to breast feed do one of two things. Buy human breast milk (contact the Le Leche League) or give your child goats milk.(raw is best). Please read "The Nursing Mothers Companion" and "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding."
