There's such a thing as being enthralled by consumerist visions fed to us by ad agencies and the there's such a thing as looking at consumer culture critically. The former will just be an orgiastic frenzy one can claim as a truly lived life and the later can be seen as knowing the difference between having and being. There's always that choice. None.
