SPARTAME SAFETY -
DO YOU BELIEVE SOUND SCIENCE OR THE SCARE MONGERS?
For more than three decades, scientists have researched the safety of aspartame. Approximately 200
scientific studies with humans and animals establish that consuming aspartame is safe and does not
cause health problems. Leading health authorities such as the Food and Drug Administration, the
American Medical Association, the American Diabetes Association and the American Dietetic
Aspartame is made up of components also found naturally in much greater amounts in common foods
such as meat, milk, dried beans, fruits and vegetables. The body handles the components from
aspartame in the same way it handles them from foods we eat daily.
Yet, over the years, misinformation about aspartame safety has repeatedly surfaced in the media and,
lately, on the Internet. Unfounded allegations that aspartame causes an astounding array of symptoms
and diseases (a red flag in itself) causes unnecessary alarm. Even worse, people with serious health
problems may delay seeking medical care for the true cause of their condition.
