The true reason most people shop at Walmart is price!! The people who shop Walmart (myself included many times) are those who have to watch their spending. People who are in the low to middle income bracket cannot afford the luxury of paying 10 to 50 percent more for an item just to support their local businesses. I fully agree that one should support the local business when possible, and I do. I find the stores do not have the selection nor the price and are often impossible to locate. I will purchase an item if I can do so without driving all over town to find the store and pay within 5% of the price of Walmart.
My true concern here is that places like Walmart wreck the economy. It causes a false price index when compared to locally owned businesses. I
feel the same way about franchises. They are monopolizing the market in such a way as to keep the small business person from starting his own. In this way small franchises are the same as larger coporations like Walmart, K-Mart, etc.
