: I am a college student doing a research paper on Wal-Mart and I am looking for facts as to whether or not Wal-Mart actually destroys small-town life, or if it is beneficial to the small towns. If you have any factual information about this I would greatly appreciate you sending it to me. Thank you!!!

some insightful knowledge can be gained in Sam Walton's book. The truth is, wal-mart did nothing to shut down small town business except be competitive and offer business hours when small town people needed to shop. Wal-Mart was open later in the evening and also on sunday. This helped gain a large customer base when all other shops were closed. Also, look into the amount of tax revenue that is generated from your local Wal-Mart store that goes into your community. check this $$ amount before and after your wal-mart started business. Don't let the size of Wal-Mart fool you, they are still a home town store run by home town people, the mere fact they have 2000 outlets is why they have become such a target. I hope this will give you another perspective on the retail giant.
