I AM NOT TALKING OUT OF MY BACKSIDE!
-----------------------------------

In reply to the 'life' message "semi-coloned" below ...

: We eat meat because it's full of protein etc.. which, when scrubbing around in prehistoric Britain (or anywhere else for that matter) was a rare and wonderful thing, which we all need to survive.

YES, WHICH IS NOT ONLY FOUND IN MEAT DON'T FORGET.

: Also, we continue to eat meat because a) it tastes nice, and b) it's still a bloody good source of protein. The reason a vegetarian diet is proven to make people live longer is because meat-eaters tend to indulge themseleves in other areas aswell whereas veges tend to look after themselves more. Yes, red meat is a little bad for you, but eaten in proportion, like anything else, it is OK. and white meat is even better.

I AGREE. EVERYTHING IN PROPORTION IS GOOD FOR YOU. AND YES, I ADMIT THAT IT MAY BE THAT VEGETARIANS LIFE LONGER BECAUSE THEY ARE A LITTLE MORE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT THEY EAT. ALTHOUGH THIS DOESN'T MEAN LOOKING AT EVERYTHING YOU EAT, JUST ENSURING YOU GET ENOUGH INTAKE OF VARIOUS THINGS ... LIKE ANY MEAT-EATER IN FACT!

: One more thing for you to think about - if everyone stopped eating meat, what would we do with all the cows and sheep etc..? turn them loose in the wild? kill them all? either way it would mean practical extinction of hundreds of breeds that would otherwise have survived quite happily.

QUERY:- HAPPILY??

I HAVE INDEED THOUGHT ABOUT THIS. IF THE WORLD CARED ENOUGH ABOUT ANIMALS TO NOT EAT THEM, THEN THEY WOULD BE LOOKED AFTER BY US. TRUE WE DON'T LIVE IN A CARING ENOUGH WORLD BUT THAT'S WHY BEINGS KILL OTHER BEINGS TO EAT!

AND HAVE YOU ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT WOULD BE BETTER? WOULD IT BE BETTER TO KEEP UP THE POPULATION OF SOME SPECIES BY KEEPING THEM IN SMALL CAGES AND KILLING THEM WITHOUT GIVING THEM A DECENT LIFE? OR WOULD IT NOT BE MORE ACCEPTABLE TO CUT THE SUFFERING BY NOT FARMING ANIMALS IN BULK (LIKE SOME CROP) TO EAT THEM. A LIFE ISN'T WORTH LIVING IF YOU DON'T GET A DECENT ENOUGH LIFE

DO YOU SEE WHAT I'M SAYING?

AND I RETURN TO MY POINT OF THE FACT THAT IF EVERYONE WAS VEGETARIAN, MORE FOOD IS PRODUCED AND SO HELP STOP HUNGER IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE WORLD. THIS WOULD HELP SOLVE YET ANOTHER PROBLEM IN THE WORLD.

: I'm not saying you don't mean well, you probably do, but perhaps you should think a little more of the full implications of what you preach before you go spouting off.

I CAN UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM, BUT YOU MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHERE I'M COMING FROM. I AM NOT THE TYPE OF PERSON AT ALL THAT DOESN'T THINK ABOUT WHAT THEY BELIEVE. I DO THINK A LOT ABOUT WHETHER MY PRINCIPLES ARE RIGHT.

I AM NOT SAYING THAT IN AN IDEAL WORLD EATING OF MEAT WOULDN'T EXIST. IN AN IDEAL WORLD, EATING AN ANIMAL *AFTER* IT HAS DIED IS SIMPLY BRINGING THE MATERIAL BACK INTO THE FOOD CHAIN - YOU NEED TO DO THAT. (ALTHOUGH HUMANS DON'T NEED TO DO THAT BECAUSE OTHER SPECIES CONSUME MEAT TOO. MAYBE IN AN IDEAL WORLD HUMANS WOULDN'T DO ANY OF THE MEAT CONSUMPTION FOR BETTER HEALTH ... ?)

HOWEVER, I AM SAYING THAT IN THIS WORLD, EATING MEAT WOULD SORT A LOT OF PROBLEMS OUT, WITH ANY DRAWBACKS FAR OUTWEIGHED BY LOTS OF POSITIVE BENEFITS (NAMELY BETTER FOOD SUPPLIES, HEALTHIER PEOPLE {PERHAPS LESS SIGNIFICANTLY HEALTH, AND I DO AGREE THAT IT'S OPEN TO DEBATE} AND BETTER ANIMAL WELFARE).

IF YOU STILL DISAGREE WITH ME, PLEASE REPLY AND EXPLAIN.
