: we were talking about starting a union at the mcdanalds i work at, a manager trainee overheard us and threatened to have us fired. it scared some people. is this shit legal?
: my mom says it isn't, but who is going to believe me over management. he could just make up something to get me fired.
: i'd love to fire him.
: McSpotlight: It's fair to say that McDonald's permit no overt union activity on their premises, regardless of the legality of the situation. If you make union-forming remarks in the presence of a manager, you are probably risking dismissal for having a bad attitude.
: So if you intend to start unionizing, keep it very quiet to begin with and make sure that your paperwork is complete and correct. Take especial care to make sure that you also have enough people to make a real difference in your store.
McSpotlight's right. They can't legally fire you for it, but they will. One in 20 workers who try to organize a union lose their jobs. You have to go to the NLRB(National Labor Relations Board) to get your job back and that can take 4-6 years. So keep quiet about it first, but still do it!
