Caution the fallowing memo may be full of mistruths and propaganda..

TO ALL EMPLOYEES

The restaurant in Squamish B. C. no longer has a union. On July 5th 1999 the employees voted by a large majority to reject the CAW union.

You may have seen or heard the word "decertification" in media reports about Squamish. "Decertification" simply means that a majority of the employees voted to cancel the unions right to represent them.

It has been about one year since the union issue arose in Squamish. Since that time there has been negotiations, madiation, labour board hearings, a ratification vote, a strike vote and now a "decertification vote. In fact tjhe Squamish employees were asked to participate in 5 votes over the past year. Importantly the derertification vote gave the the employees a meaningful vote on whether or not they wished to be represented by the union.

You may be interested in knowing that the franchise and the union never did agree on a collective agreement.

Finally the franchisee of the Squamish restaurant said the he is pleased with his employees decision. He believed from the start that the majority of the employees did not wish to be represented by the union.

It is hoped that the information in this update will help clear up any questions you may have regarding media reports about Squamish. Please speak with your restaurant manager or your operations consultant or myself if you wish to discuss this matter, or any other matter in general detail

Signed, Cam Binnie, Operations Manager..

Please excuse my absence from the website. I had just received this material so I got it to you guys as soon as possible. If any of this has any truth to it, they are going to regret what they have done. Give it a month or two.

Regards and Solidarity.. James.
