As for being promoted, well, you ask how do you gain experience if they don't give you a chance? Looks to me like you gained experience. It took you three years.
I can agree with you about the pay...that part sux. But I really don't consider McDonald's to be a dead-end job, or I wouldn't be working there. McDonald's is a fast-paced, high-pressure, teamwork-oriented work environment. You must have recognized in your five years that the successful employees have excellent communication skills, right? What better place to learn them, when your job revolves around it? In the four months I have worked at McD's I have become a more outgoing, responsible and organized person. More importantly I have the satisfaction of knowing that my crew will always be there to back me up if I need help...management at my store are great too, which makes all the difference in the world. Doesn't sound like a waste of my life to me.
