The funny thing is, MOST of the christians I've met believed the bible was a collection of stories which contain, among other things, many flaws, contradictions, and problematic world-views. The majority of them were not so adamant about the bible being the revealed word of god. None claimed it was flawlessly right and pure.

Fundamentalists, on the other hand, believe otherwise. They wouldn't want to let facts get in the way of their dogmas, it might actually make them into reasonable people, when it's much more fun to be a pompous ass...
