Phone scams - this time by MCI

What the hell is wrong with MCI? Because of my wierd expiences with phone cards recently, I've been paying more attention to telecomunications stuff in general - like my phone bill for example. Why are there charges from 5 different phone companies on my bill - companies I've never even heard of charging me for things I've never purchased or approved of purchasing? How is it that they are able add tax to an amount due that already has tax figured into it. And why stop adding tax THERE? Why not just tax THAT grand total amount again and come up with an even HIGHER grand total?

MCI is either the most incompetent bunch of buffoons on the planet or they are just downright criminally minded. I have had problems with them since day one - two month ago when I got new phone service. I get a long distance bill in the mail every month but I have no long distance service - I simply am blocked from making any long distance calls! I've called them up many times. I'm usually disconnected, transferred to the wrong person, or put on hold indefinitely. When I finally got through to someone who knew how to help me, it turned out that she wasn't even an MCI representative. She was an operator for some other 3rd party company. I had to give her my social security number and answer a ream of technical, legal questions that I could barely comprehend. I just answered yes to all of them unless she flagged me to answer otherwise then I would change my answer to no.

Now, a week later, I still don't have long distance service and I'm expecting another bill any day now. They'll have to kill me to get that money.

The first three friends I shared this ecperience with said that they had all been ripped off blind by MCI. Their stories were even worse than mine. My roommate says that the reason we had to put the phone in my name was because he has refused to pay our local GTE carrier for false MCI charges on an old GTE phone bill of his. Consequently our local GTE refuses give him service. MCI promised 5 cents a minute on a nationally televised comercial but when my roommate tried to use this service they charged him $3.50 per minute!!! MCI refused to remove the fake charges and my friend threatoned to sue them. Apparently alot of people ARE sueing them for simular problems. I heard that MCI has been banned from the entire state of Kansas. Is this true?

GTE turned off his phone because he wouldn't pay the rediculous MCI charges and when he explained to them that they were carrying fraudulant MCI charges on their bills their response was unbelievable: "Hey, you can't believe everything you see on TV" was the operators excuse!!! They knew they were participating in the fraudulant actions of MCI and they simply did not care!!! Christ, lets just go back to having one phone company if this is the way things are going to be.
