: : In addition, Cuba sent troops to Namibia to defend the democratically elected Marxist government there which was under attack by its neighbor South Africa. As a result, it was Cuba which negotiated terms of peace in Namibia after inflicting a series of defeats on the South African army. This in turn increased pressures on the De Klerk government and contributed to the fall of apartheid. Nelson Mandela at an ANC conference last Fall greeted Castro as "My good friend."

: Don: The Cubans defeat the South African army!?

Yes; at the battle of Cuito Cuanavele and other places. South Africa gradually saw more and more of its neighbors - first Zambia, tehn Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Namibia - fall to African socialist or Marxist regimes that were oppsoed to S. Africa's system of institutionalized racism. South Africa's army was drained by battles against the Angolan governmnet, Cuban troops, the Marxist SWAPO in Namibia, and finally against the ANC itself. By 1994 the apartheid regime had become insupportable.

This example shows us that liberation is inevitable.
