i work in a franchise restaurant, and let me tell you it's great. the work is hard or easy depending on the busyness of the shift, but the managers are great and the owner is especially wonderful. although i have heard that before the store was bought by a franchisee (1994) it was way better (ie more LAX). i think the fact of the matter is that neither store nor franchisee restaurants are better necessarily, it depends on the people and how they're run.
