RONALD IN THE SPOTLIGHT

English and Drama

Aim:To give the pupils a first hand opportunity to question their prior knowledge and the above information using a focal point.

Method: Place Ronald in the hot seat. Pupils can use an improvised situation to question and make judgements about the important issues/facts exposed above.

Learning feature: By creating an imaginary situation which is also symbolic we are developing an appreciation of language beyond the literal- a key stage three requirement. (Therefore this lesson can be aimed at year six in preparation.)

Ask the pupils to draw up a list of questions for Ronald McDonald. This will invole some preparation and they will need access to the information in the other sections. They may work separately or in groups.

Alternatively, they can be given a copy of the 'What's Wrong With Ronald McDonald' leaflet.

Ask pupils to volunteer to take on the role of Ronald McDonald, in other words to be in the hot seat.
