13/12/2004 . UPI . Washington Times . Ohio, USA Food fight: McDonalds vs.Cleveland Clinic A Cleveland Clinic wants to oust a McDonald's restaurant from its main hospital building, but the Golden Arches is fighting back. Cleveland Clinic CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove. a cardiac surgeon, has already been successful in removing Pizza Hut from his hospital. But McDonalds says it is ready to fight to remain in the world-renowned hospital's main building for the remaining 10 years of its 20-year lease, reported Crain's Cleveland Business Monday. At a meeting scheduled for Thursday, McDonald's told Crain's it plans to argue that, comparatively, it offers as healthy -- if not healthier -- food as other hospital tenants Au Bon Pain, Starbucks and Subway. Of the 16 items McDonald's chose for the comparison it reported lower calories and comparable fat grams for practically every product. McDonald's also said it has smaller portion sizes. Company dietitians say they will argue McDonald's Big Mac has less fat and fewer calories than roast beef sandwiches at Au Bon Pain or Subway. The Cleveland Clinic has been rated the nation's No. 1 cardiac care center for the past decade in U.S. News and World Report's annual hospital survey, the newspaper noted.

Clinic's CEO Still Wants McDonald's Out There's no deal between McDonalds and the Cleveland Clinic after the two parties met on Thursday, NewsChannel5 reported. Heart surgeon and chief executive officer Dr. Toby Cosgrove wants the fast-food restaurant out of the lobby of the world-renowned heart center. Cosgrove said having the restaurant in the hospital sends the wrong message. McDonalds has 10 years left on its lease, and it is one of the most profitable McDonalds in the area, WEWS reported.
Officials said the two sides will meet again.
