PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING PROPOSAL , A SPOOF OF A CURRENT PLANNING APPLICATION.

  • Applicant

    Name ..McDonald's Junk-Foods Ltd..
    Address ..11-59 High Road,.........
    .........East Finchley, London....
    Postcode .N2 8AW. Tel .0181 700 7000.

  • The Application Site

Location ..The well known local Pub...
......Up the Road, Round the Corner.
    ......Just out of Town..............
    Present use ..Class A3..Public House...

  • Short Description of Proposal

McDonald's intend to convert the existing Public House into a 'drive-thru' providing high fat, low fibre, junk-food. Sophisticated marketing will be used to encourage impressionable children to become frequent consumers of such a diet (linked to greater risk of heart disease and cancer).

  • Access & Vehicles

Does the proposal involve alteration to an existing road access? YES [/] NO [ ]
How many vehicles will enter the site on a normal working day ? ...LOTS!

The existing access from the road will be greatly enlarged, resulting in nuisance to passing pedestrians, and greater risk of accidents involving children. The 'Drive-Thru' will encourage people to needlessly use their cars and contribute to air pollution. Hundreds of cars will enter the site each day, increasing the levels of local traffic and congestion.

  • Employment

The total number employed on the site following the proposed development ? ..50-60...

Although appearing to provide more jobs than the existing Pub, most will be insecure, part-time jobs with low wages and little opportunity of meaningful promotion. No account is taken of the proposal's contribution to loss of trade to existing businesses in the area and resulting unemployment.

  • Environmental Assessment Regulations

Is an Environmental Statement enclosed ? YES [ ] NO [/]

Large volumes of needless and wasteful packaging will be used. Despite promising to perform 'litter patrols', the reality will be a significant increase in litter. Some people may find the cooking smells offensive and noise may also prove to be a problem.

  • Relationship to Other Proposals

Does the proposal form a stage of a larger development which is not part of this application ?

While the initial proposal is for opening hours of 7am to 11pm, future proposals may include an application for 24 hour opening.
Additionally, McDonald's are likely to apply for 'Advertisement Consent' in order to erect illuminated signs, and advertisement billboards etc.
This proposal is part a plan for global domination of the fast-food industry. One hundred new outlets are planned for the UK in 1997.
