Day 213 - 31 01 96 - Page 39

                                                                  DAY 213

                                            SEMIR KHAZNA, Cross-examined:

       numbers started to reduce.

  Q. There was a problem when Mr. Riley was the Manager, was
       there not?
       A. I cannot comment on that, because I was not aware of
       that.

  Q. That was the reason you were brought in, to sort out the
       problem?
       A. The reason why I was called in was because John Nevison
had a problem with the crew hiring in the restaurant.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Why do you not concentrate on what is
actually in the statement, because if you look at the top
of page 2, paragraph 4 -- look at the bottom of page 1
first of all. You say you took over in February 1994.
Bottom of page 1 -- do you have that? I am sorry.
Divider 39J, your statement. Look at the bottom of the
first page, paragraph 2. You took over in February 1994?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. Then paragraph 3: "My Operations Manager, Mark Twyser,
explained to me that I was being appointed as Supervisor in
order to improve the store." Presumably, he said that to
you before you actually took over?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. If you turn over the page: "It was immediately obvious to
me that there was a shortage of both management, team and
crew at the store." What Ms. Steel is putting to you is
that that was the position the moment you set foot there,
John Nevison only having taken over two days beforehand.
       Do you understand?
       A. Yes, I do.

  Q. Do you agree with that?
       A. I agree that there was not a sufficient amount of staff
in the restaurant when John Nevison took over.

  Q. Just read through paragraph 4 and tell me, was that the
situation when you first went in two days after Mark Riley
became an Area Supervisor and John Nevison became the
       Store Manager?
       A. My initial findings, reading through this, on the day
I took over the Heathrow branch, were that the store was
short of Managers and there was not sufficient amount of
staff for the volume of that restaurant.

  Q. That was the situation when you first went in as Area
       Supervisor?
       A. That is correct.

MS. STEEL: You thought there should have been six salaried
Managers, 12 Floor Managers and in the region of 160 crew?
       A. That is correct, yes.

  Q. So, if the store had been running at much less than that
during Mr. Riley's period as Store Manager, then the store
       was understaffed?
       A. In my view, yes.
