                                                                  DAY 213

                                            SEMIR KHAZNA, Cross-examined:

     1
2 Q. On average, during the time when Mr. Nevison was Manager,
3 there were between 125 and 132 staff on the payroll, for
     4 hourly paid staff.
     5 A. Sorry?
     6
7 Q. You would consider that seriously understaffed, would you?
8 A. Is that including the Feltham staff in that list?
     9
10 Q. That is the numbers on the payroll.
    11 A. Which -----
    12
13 Q. Yes, it would be. It includes the people that you say were
14 destined for the Feltham store, yes.
    15 A. Your question is?
    16
17 Q. Would you consider those numbers to be seriously
    18 understaffed, between -----
19 A. Not seriously understaffed, no. But bearing in
    20 mind -----
    21
22 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you think it would be useful to find out
23 how many staff there were at the store apart from the
    24 Feltham people?
    25
26 MS. STEEL: Well, I will come back to that. (To the witness)
27 Even supposing at this time -- if there is 125 to 130
28 staff, you would not call that seriously understaffed?
    29 A. No.
    30
31 MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will tell you why I interrupted. Just
32 listen to me a moment. It is all a bit grey there, because
33 a high proportion of those people are still in training, so
34 maybe they do not count as people who are, as it were --
35 how shall I describe it -- full crew members. I am not
36 going to stop you if you have some particular point in
37 mind, but I am merely making the point that we have to
38 allow for people who are not really Heathrow crew at all.
39 Even if they are actually there, they are still
40 concentrating on being trained, rather than providing the
    41 service, perhaps.
    42
43 MS. STEEL: (To the witness) When there are a large number of
44 crew taken on all at once in training, are there more
45 people scheduled for shifts, or does the scheduling stay at
    46 roughly the same?
47 A. We actually had a separate schedule for the Feltham
48 crew, with the Managers of Feltham there, to ensure that
49 the training was provided for the new staff for the new
50 restaurant. It was a separate schedule to the Heathrow
    51 one.
    52
53 Q. So the Feltham people that you are talking about, they were
54 basically completely unproductive, as far as the Heathrow
55 store was concerned; is that what you are saying?
56 A. They were new people; they were getting trained on a
    57 "buddy" system.
    58
59 Q. But are you saying that there was twice the number of
60 people on every shift in that store, in the Heathrow store,

                                      40
