DAY 213
SEMIR KHAZNA, Cross-examined:

Q. On average, during the time when Mr. Nevison was Manager,
there were between 125 and 132 staff on the payroll, for
hourly paid staff.
A. Sorry?

Q. You would consider that seriously understaffed, would you?
A. Is that including the Feltham staff in that list?

Q. That is the numbers on the payroll.
A. Which -----

Q. Yes, it would be. It includes the people that you say were
destined for the Feltham store, yes.
A. Your question is?

Q. Would you consider those numbers to be seriously
understaffed, between -----
A. Not seriously understaffed, no. But bearing in
mind -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you think it would be useful to find out
how many staff there were at the store apart from the
Feltham people?

MS. STEEL: Well, I will come back to that. (To the witness)
Even supposing at this time -- if there is 125 to 130
staff, you would not call that seriously understaffed?
A. No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will tell you why I interrupted. Just
listen to me a moment. It is all a bit grey there, because
a high proportion of those people are still in training, so
maybe they do not count as people who are, as it were --
how shall I describe it -- full crew members. I am not
going to stop you if you have some particular point in
mind, but I am merely making the point that we have to
allow for people who are not really Heathrow crew at all.
Even if they are actually there, they are still
concentrating on being trained, rather than providing the
service, perhaps.

MS. STEEL: (To the witness) When there are a large number of
crew taken on all at once in training, are there more
people scheduled for shifts, or does the scheduling stay at
roughly the same?
A. We actually had a separate schedule for the Feltham
crew, with the Managers of Feltham there, to ensure that
the training was provided for the new staff for the new
restaurant. It was a separate schedule to the Heathrow
one.

Q. So the Feltham people that you are talking about, they were
basically completely unproductive, as far as the Heathrow
store was concerned; is that what you are saying?
A. They were new people; they were getting trained on a
"buddy" system.

Q. But are you saying that there was twice the number of
people on every shift in that store, in the Heathrow store,
