                                                                  DAY 213

                                            SEMIR KHAZNA, Cross-examined:

     1 that?
2 A. I had many a conversation with Kim. Every time
     3 I -----
     4
5 Q. Do you remember a conversation to that effect?
6 A. Not off the top of my head, no.
     7
8 MS. STEEL: You were aware that under-18s were working after
9 12 o'clock; did you not think this was something very
    10 serious?
11 A. Yes, I did and I did speak to the Manager.
    12
    13 Q. This was Mr. Nevison -----
    14
15 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause a moment, please. Do you agree
16 that you were aware that under-18s were working past
17 12 o'clock, because the last part of paragraph 9
18 categorically says: "I was not aware of it at the time"?
    19 Which is right?
20 A. I was not aware that there were people working past the
    21 12 o'clock midnight, no.
    22
23 MS. STEEL: Why did you just say you were?
    24 A. I did not.
    25
26 MR. MORRIS: Ms. Steel said: "You were aware that under-18s
27 were working past 12 o'clock; did you not think this was
28 something very serious?" Answer: "Yes, I did. I did
    29 speak to the Manager"?
30 A. Sorry, can you repeat that again?
    31
32 MS. STEEL: Yes. "You were aware that under-18s were working
33 after 12 o'clock; did you not think this was something very
34 serious?" "Yes, I did and I did speak to the Manager".
35 A. In my statement I said I was not aware of it at the
    36 time.
    37
38 Q. So when did you become aware of it?
    39 A. After a period, when we -- I checked the reports.
    40
41 Q. Right. When was that?
42 A. The time I was working there, could be -- could have
    43 been May, April, June.
    44
45 Q. That was when Mr. Nevison was a Manager, was it?
    46 A. That is correct.
    47
48 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause a moment. Yes?
    49
50 MS. STEEL: Was this one of the reasons why you moved
51 Mr. Nevison to the Feltham store?
    52 A. No.
    53
54 Q. So what happened when you spoke to Mr. Nevison?
    55 A. Regarding?
    56
    57 Q. Regarding under-18s working past midnight?
58 A. I told him that it was a policy that should not happen.
    59
60 Q. What happened after that?

                                      51
