Day 213 - 31 01 96 - Page 73

                                                                  DAY 213

65 which is the period which covers when Mr. Roberts first
       took over.

  MR. MORRIS: 65 or 85?

MR. RAMPTON: 65. Here are 137 names listed including, as we
can see from page 66, 13 new starters, all of whom arrived
on 25th June or thereafter which was the day Mr. Roberts
       took over?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. There are 137 names listed and I make the 25 complete zeros
and a total of 105 who worked during that fortnight. Then
       please turn to -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How many complete zeros?

MR. RAMPTON: I made it 27, my Lord -- no, 25, I think it is.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So there is 112 then?

MR. RAMPTON: No. I may be wrong, but it is over 100 anyway.
I may not have the figures completely right. I did that
one a bit of time ago.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Am I just to take 25 from 137?

MR. RAMPTON: No, because I got the final total out of 105.
Your Lordship should take off another 7, which I marked
down separately as "new starters" elsewhere.

MS. STEEL: I do not know whether you want to know, but I have
not got the same figures on either of those.

MR. RAMPTON: It really does not -----

MR. MORRIS: Miss that one out.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not miss it out.

  MR. RAMPTON: Assume, please -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You can give me different figures later.

MR. RAMPTON: Do not miss it out. Assume that it is over 100 in
this fortnight ending on the 2nd or 3rd July 1994. Then
please turn to page 69, where the total number of names
listed is 154; and I make the total who actually worked --
that is minus the zeros -- 121; and then, finally -- and
this is only by way of example; I have not completed the
exercise -- on page 75, by which time you have got to 2nd
August, there are 141 names listed, 21 zeros, I think,
making 120 who actually worked during that fortnight. This
is by the beginning of August; and Mr. Roberts has been in
       the store about a month.

The question I have to ask you, as Supervisor, is this:
does the difference, fortnight by fortnight, between
something in the mid 80s of people who worked in the store
and something, by a month later, of 120 per fortnight, make
